How to Make your Home Office Setup Efficient

The pandemic has changed the way we work – for many of us, we now conduct most of the working week from home. While this avoids an energy-sapping commute, it does have some drawbacks though. If your office isn’t set up appropriately, you’ll find yourself with back pain and may find it difficult to concentrate. Below we explore how to set up your home office efficiently.

    Chair

Your chair might be the most important part of the office. A poorly made, or flimsy, chair won’t support your back and will lead to back pain. Rather than going for any old chair, you need something with the appropriate features to be sat on for eight hours a day. For a start, it needs to have an adjustable height to be able to match up with the desk. Plus, it needs to be ergonomic and support the curve of your spine. Adjustable armrests are also handy too.

    Desk

Your desk needs to work in tandem with your chair. Ensure it’s set at a height where your arms can rest straight on it. Ideally, your desk will also have plenty of space for your work equipment too.

    Keyboard and monitor

Your work equipment needs to be arranged appropriately too. Your monitor should be at eye level to ensure that you’re not contorting your neck throughout the day or straining to read. Meanwhile, your keyboard should be situated in a place where you can comfortably type and keep your arms straight.

    Declutter

A messy office will make it difficult to concentrate in many cases. Decluttering can solve this though. Try and throw out or move anything that isn’t essential to work. Perhaps you can find a drawer inside your desk to file paperwork too. Ultimately, it’s a case of finding a new home for many of the items littering your desk.

    Natural light

Artificial light can make us feel tired, impair our ability to think clearly and make it more difficult to sleep. Try and find a source of natural light in your office to reduce your reliance on artificial lights.

Suddenly work becomes much more relaxing when your office is efficient. Accidents can still happen at home or at the workplace, though. Aside from these preventative measures, if you have an accident it could be worth making a personal injury claim.
