Save On Household Repairs With A Home Warranty – A Priceless Feeling

Imagine something going wrong in the home. This may be something as small as the toaster in your house or it could be the entire household electrical system. What if the plumbing system backs up and starts sending raw sewage into the home? A home warranty can be of help in many of these situations. While the average person will go out and purchase a new toaster, the cost of replacing the household electric system could run into thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.

The home warranty will often cover the replacement or repair cost of household systems and appliances, saving the owner not only money but time as well. Is the cost of this warranty truly worth it? When a person sees the pricing from 2-10 HBW, they typically find the answer to this question is a resounding yes.

    Appliances and Their Failure Rate

People often purchase a high-dollar appliance assuming it is of excellent quality and will last for decades, much as their parents’ appliances did in the past. When the appliance fails in only a few years, they wonder what happened. Sadly, any appliance undergoes wear and tear with use. Regularly maintaining the appliance helps to reduce the damage caused by regular use, but it isn’t perfect. The dishwasher serves as only one appliance that could fail in the home.

Homeowners know the HVAC system tends to be the one that fails, and repairing or replacing it can be costly. Water heaters are another appliance that tends to fail, as the average lifespan for this appliance is eight to 12 years. However, boilers, gas ovens, and freezers rarely last more than 20 years, if they make it that long. Washing machines and humidifiers only make it ten years on average.

When a person buys a home, they are buying appliances that have already been used. Often, it is difficult to figure out when they were purchased. A home warranty becomes of great help if one or more of the appliances fail within a few years of moving in.

Determining the Cost of Home Repairs

Individuals often don’t realize how much a household repair costs until they are hit with a hefty bill. Sadly, they only factor in the monetary cost at this time, when there are other hidden costs associated with this task. For example, the person must find a contractor they trust to take on the household repair and ensure someone is present in the home when this individual arrives to do the work.

Try to determine how often the appliances and household systems will need repair. Create a spreadsheet that lists all home appliances and household systems. For each appliance or system, find the date of manufacture. Invoices and labels become of great help at this time. For household systems, such as the plumbing system, assume they have been in place since the house was built. The only exception to this is when the previous owner shared information on upgrades to the system or a replacement.

With this spreadsheet in hand, visit the internet to learn the average life expectancy of each appliance and system. Although the systems and appliances in your home could last longer or fail sooner, this information provides the homeowner with a better understanding of the current situation when it comes to these household components. Any appliance or system that has five years or less remaining on its expected average lifespan will likely need repairs or replacement soon. Create a second list of these items.

Again, using the internet, estimate the cost of repairing or replacing each item that appears on the second list. Take into account your geographical region when collecting these estimates, as repair costs vary greatly across the nation. Next, input the manufacturer and model number because they also play a role in the cost of the parts and the overall price for the repair.

If time is limited, take the following repair estimates into account. Appliance repairs, on average, set a homeowner back $170. However, the average cost for appliance repair nationwide ranges from $105 to $236. This can add up if several repairs are needed in a short period. Let’s look at a few appliances and what a homeowner can expect to pay for repairing them.

    Refrigerators

Every home needs a working refrigerator. When this appliance fails, the repair must be carried out quickly or you risk the loss of the food contained within. Technicians usually spend between two and three hours fixing this appliance when it is a refrigerator/freezer combo and charge anywhere from $200 to $400. However, if the ice maker breaks, expect to spend an average of $330 to have it repaired. Nevertheless, countless things may go wrong with this appliance. There is no way to know what the technician will find and how much it will cost until they examine the unit.

    Washing Machine

Anyone who has ever had their washing machine fail and had to visit a laundromat knows how frustrating it can be to go without this appliance. When calculating the repair cost for this appliance, factor in how much is spent at the laundromat doing clothes and watch the cost of a broken washing machine rise considerably. The average cost of fixing a washing machine runs from $50 to $150, although the final price depends on the nature of the problem and its severity.

The machine may fail to drain and be nothing more than a clog. However, it could also be the drain pump that has gone bad. Any imbalance in the washer could lead to it wobbling or the machine could have a hose that leaks. When the machine fails to fill with water as it should, the water control or inlet value might be failing or it could be a kinked hose. Many things can go wrong with this machine and lead to costly repairs.

    Clothes Dryer

Clothes dryers shouldn’t break, right? They do nothing more than deliver hot air to a rotating drum or so it seems. However, the average cost of repairing this appliance runs from $100 to $400. Labor costs can drive the fee up even higher. Gas dryers cost more at the time of purchase but require less energy to run. However, several things can go wrong with this unit, including a faulty flame sensor, thermal fuse, or ignitor.

Both electric and gas dryers may need the belt replaced, which can run in the hundreds of dollars. On the other hand, the dryer may fail to produce any heat due to a bad fuse, timer, thermostat, or another component. Expect to pay up to $200 to have this problem resolved. Drum issues don’t always involve a broken belt. It could be the idler pulley, motor, or roller has gone bad and you might spend $200 to get the problem fixed.

A dryer that overheats could have a clogged vent or a faulty heating coil, among other things. This problem must be corrected immediately before disaster strikes and may set the homeowner back $100. On the other hand, the dryer may have a serious issue that could cost several hundred dollars to fix, and the homeowner must pay this fee out of pocket if they don’t have a home warranty.

    Oven/Range

People like to eat a variety of foods. When the range, oven, or cooktop in the home isn’t working, however, they are limited in what they can make. Fixing this appliance can run a few hours and cost a few hundred dollars. It depends on where the problem lies, as it may be a burner that runs too hot, an oven door that doesn’t open or close properly, a bad thermostat, or numerous other things.

    Small Appliance

Small appliances can be just as costly to repair as larger ones. A garbage disposal may stop working, a microwave might stop heating food, or a dishwasher could fail to drain. The homeowner must decide whether they will fix the appliance or replace it. With a home warranty, they can turn this problem over to someone else.

    Home Warranty

The Benefits of a Home Warranty

A home warranty offers several benefits. Homeowners find their household systems and appliances can be repaired or replaced in a timely manner and at a far lower cost than if they were responsible for the entire bill. The warranty provider locates skilled professionals to take on these tasks rather than the homeowner, and the warranty covers multiple appliances and systems, unlike a manufacturer’s warranty, which is limited to a specific device.

When the time comes to sell the home, potential buyers appreciate knowing the home had a warranty. This lets them know problems have been addressed promptly and they are likely to need fewer repairs in the coming years. The buyer can increase the asking price of the home when this is the case.

A home warranty provides the owner with peace of mind. They know they won’t be facing an expensive repair bill if a covered system or appliance fails. They are protected from unexpected costs and can stay within the budget. The financial freedom they obtain in this situation is priceless.
