10 Things to Do When Visiting Canada

Canada is one of those countries where you hear positive stories, the people are friendly, and it is packed with famous landmarks. Have you ever wondered what summer in Quebec is like? Or do you want to see the Rocky Mountains in winter? No matter your choice of season, this North American country is one you simply must visit. And why is that? Canada has so many unique destinations that it’s tricky to choose just one place to go and something cool to do. Therefore, we’ve looked at some of the top activities when visiting this part of the world.

    Watch a hockey game

Canadian ice hockey is the sport of this nation. This sport is so popular that it is considered a massive part of Canadian culture and national identity. But why is this sport so popular? Understanding how the game’s popularity ties into the nation are essential. Even before Canada became a country in 1867, people who lived in this region were already playing the sport. The Indigenous Mi’kmaq people first played their version and created sticks and pucks. So, to say this sport is deeply ingrained in this nation is an understatement. Check out the likes of Montreal Canadians, Toronto Maple Leafs, or the Vancouver Canucks and see some cool things on and off the ice.

    Visit a national park.

With a slew of national parks, you are guaranteed to get your nature fix. Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is one such park found on the Saskatchewan and Alberta borders. This place offers everything from grasslands to wetlands and forests, so you get more than you bargained for here. There is also diverse plant and animal life, with rolling hills and beautiful lakes. Excellent in winter and summer; take a ride on a mountain bike along the many trails or zipline through the lush greenery if you are brave enough. And if you like, you are more than welcome to book a room for a few nights since the park offers on-site accommodation – WINNING!

    See a snow town

It should come as no surprise that you would find a whole town dedicated to snowfall, and it’s called Fernie. Located in the Elk Valley area of East Kootenay, Fernie has a small population of fewer than 6000 people. The town is most famous and called a powder town due to the 30 feet of snowfall they experience during the winter months, which run from November to April every year. But that’s not all. You don’t have to trek to the Swiss Alps to enjoy a skiing trip since Fernie has a resort of its own, Alpine. Alpine Resort is world-renowned as a ski and snowboarding destination.

See the dinosaur capital of the world.

See where T-rex and co. roamed the Earth before humans made an appearance? Did we live amongst each other? Drumheller is in Drumheller. You can see Dino fossils on display at the Royal Tyrrell Museum, but you can also see the world’s largest dinosaur, a giant model T-rex.

    Swim in a river

In British Columbia, you will find the iconic Fraser River. Spanning a whopping 860 miles, this is one magnificent body of water. Another interesting fact is that the Fraser River is also home to the world’s largest salmon migration. And we already know Canada is synonymous with the salmon fishing industry. Dubbed the Land of Gold and Splendor by BBC, this is one place you need to check out for yourself and see in real life.

    Niagara Falls

The world-famous attraction is known by probably everyone on the planet for a good reason. The falls were used as a stunt plane for many magicians, such as Bobby Leach, who was the first man to go over the falls in a barrel. Later, the legend himself, David Copperfield (who will be featured in the Dickens Universe), also took a modern barrel over the falls, but unlike Leach, he survived. This is an incredible place to sightsee and enjoy.

    A political scene

Few countries have such exquisite architecture, but if you head to Ontario, you will be amazed at how beautiful Canada’s Parliament is. It’s probably right up there with the likes of Europe. This must-see attraction is open to the public, so tourists are encouraged to make bookings in advance since tickets are limited per day.

    Head to Charlevoix

That’s Char-le-voy if you are struggling to pronounce it. Situated in Quebec, this small town is filled with activities such as fishing, dog sledding, and even cruises too. It’s also positioned itself as the ideal getaway for couples and singles!

    Yukon

When we hear Yukon, we think about shows such as Gold Rush, Klondike, Yukon Gold, and the old favorite, White Fang. This vibrant city is known for its gold mining, and today it’s celebrated because of its affluent mountainous areas and incredible lakes. Many of the signature buildings from the gold mining era exist today.

    Let’s go beaching

When we hear Canada, we hardly ever think about heading to the beach, but we should; there are several great ones you simply must see. One that stands out is Cavendish Beach on Prince Edward Island. You can take a walk by the rock towers, and there is a range of water activities to enjoy during the summer.
